We’ve been dealing with the horrible air in OR here OK (current AQI 296! Down from hovering in 500 range last few days) and JUST got a Honeywell purifier delivered.

Kinja'd!!!

BUUUTTTT....the unit worked for about an hour...and then just stopped, and wouldn’t turn back on. Nothing lights up, nothing happens (yes, outlets have power). Honeywell CS was good enough to just put an order in for a replacement at no cost no questions asked. But that will take at least a few days to arrive.

Any tips/experience on fixing these things? It’s a big box but looking in there looks pretty basic....a bunch of filters and a fan. Anything I can try doing opening up the broken unit to get it to work? I’m not an engineer by any means but willing to open things up and see if there’s something obvious that is loose/broken.

Here’s the unit we bought -

Does giving the fan a quick spin before turning on power help?  Assuming that the fan is the only moving part, you may just have a bad unit.

Is there a fuse on it somewhere?

Open it up and look for anything burnt up. It may have a board mounted fuse. All in all it should be fairly simple in there. Keep an eye out for one of these : (thermal fuse)

I had two of those in my previous office and they ran for weeks on end without issue. Sorry...

Touch button interface probably burned up. I wouldnt work on it unless you know what you are doing.  Maybe hit it and see if it turns on :P

Save the filters for the new one coming in.

We have one of those. It works great. The pre filter actually seems to fill up the quickest. Pick up some spares.

As for functionality. I have no idea why there is a touch interface. Apparently a 4 position rotary switch couldn’t do the job? Get off my lawn!

Will try, but don’t think it will work. None of the lights even come on when I plug in to the wall.

Ugh - apparently I posted to my kinda page and then crossed over to Oppo so everyone turning up in the grays, sorry folks!

Yeah really shitty luck.

Was surprised how easily they just put in an order for a replacement unit. Didn’t even take any proof of purchase from me - could easily be abused, but guess that’d be a pretty weird con.

How accessible is the logic board? If nothing turns on, and if the outlet works, then the electronics are probably kaput.

Fewer moving parts in this design grandpa

Yeah that’s a big possibility. My wife already gave it a few good knocks, unfortunately no luck!

We got some spare filters to go with this one already too, so will have enough to last us quite a while.

Thanks, will do but honestly no clue what I would do if/when I find something like this :)

My ideal scenario would be I open it up, and oh look the circuit board wasn’t plugged in all the way and came loose. Click, done!

Should be pretty accessible - going to open up after work. I found a youtube video in Hindi of a very similar model being opened up...couldn’t understand anything he was saying, but layout of internals was pretty simple and should be similar.

moving parts ~= higher likihood of failure. Especially with shit cap touch sensors. Sometimes 1 moving part is an acceptable risk compared to getting quality sensors, setting good thresholds and writing robust algothims.
